What is 2C-T-2?

2C-T-2, also known as 2,5-dimethoxy-4-ethylthiophenethylamine, is a psychedelic phenethylamine of the 2C family. It was synthesized by Alexander Shulgin in 1981. This substance has similarities to mescaline, MDMA and 2C-T-7 .

The effects of 2C-T-2 are similar to those of 2C-T-7, but it can cause stronger physical reactions:

• Nausea, especially at the beginning of the intoxication
• No deaths related to 2C-T-2 have been reported so far

The psychedelic effects are milder compared to 2C-T-7. The effects start about an hour after ingestion and usually last two hours before reaching the plateau. Hallucinations are similar to those of LSD and psilocybin.

Pharmacology of 2C-T-2

The toxicity of 2C-T-2 has not yet been adequately researched. Although it is weaker than 2C-T-7, high doses could pose similar risks to other phenethylamines. It can be particularly dangerous when combined with other drugs, such as alcohol or MDMA.

2C-T-2 was sold in Dutch smartshops for a while, but in 1999 the country banned the substance and classified it as a hard drug. In the US, 2C-T-2 is not specifically banned, but could be prosecuted under the Analogue Act. In the UK, it falls under drug law and is illegal.
